We Are The Changemakers Panelist Bio
Seferiana Day has worked in politics, youth development, and community organizing for the past decade. She currently serves as Special Adviser to Mayor Tim Burgess, after serving nearly three years as his Legislative Assistant at the Seattle City Council. In 2014 she managed the successful state senate run for now-congress member Pramila Jayapal (WA-7). With a background in community and labor organizing with SEIU locals in Seattle and Pittsburgh, Seferiana believes in the power of activism and the importance of a racial equity lens to shape public policy. She is most proud of writing legislation in collaboration with housing advocates to establish the Seattle Renters’ Commission, the first formal advisory board of its kind in the country.
Seferiana serves as Board President of Washington Bus, a statewide organization that engages young people in politics and believes that young people are the leaders we need right now. She also serves on the boards of the South Seattle Emerald, a non-profit media source that highlights the stories of South Seattle, and Powerful Voices, a social justice organization that centers black and brown girls so they can grow as leaders in their lives and in their communities.
Seferiana holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Washington, and lately is learning to code, "nerding out" about astrology, and keeping a regular yoga practice to stay well.
