We Are The Changemakers Speaker Bio
As a leading progressive voice on matters related to the federal judiciary and as an unrivaled expert on the legal framework, importance, and assessment of nonprofit advocacy activities, Alliance for Justice (AFJ) has served the cause of justice and promoted democracy since 1979. Nan Aron, AFJ’s founder and president, guides the organization and its two programs, Bolder Advocacy and the Justice Program, to secure the right of all Americans to have their voices heard when government makes decisions that affect their lives. Nan is nationally recognized for her vast expertise in public interest law, the federal judiciary and citizen participation in public policy.
Under Nan’s leadership, AFJ is the premier voice on the critically important role the federal courts play. AFJ has identified and recruited candidates for federal judgeships, paving the way for confirmations of hundreds of federal judges and justices. AFJ has also led the effort to ensure the federal judiciary reflects the diversity of the legal profession and everyday Americans.
Bolder Advocacy has trained and assisted thousands of nonprofits and foundations on the importance of advocacy and the IRS and FEC rules governing it. AFJ has developed a library of resources, including publications, blog posts, and webinars that supports advocacy work. It speaks out in Congress and federal agencies for organizations across the political spectrum to defend the right to advocate. AFJ offices in DC, Oakland, Los Angeles, and Dallas meet the needs of nonprofits and foundations in these key areas.
